How a Guided Uffizi Visit Works
From the meeting point to the moment the guide says goodbye.
Book with names and birth dates
Enter each participant's full name and date of birth at booking. The €29 Uffizi ticket is included in the tour price and issued in your name; staff check it against your passport or ID at the door, children included.
Meet opposite the Uffizi exit
The group gathers at the City Florence Tours office at Via de' Castellani 18/red, opposite the gallery's general exit, a minute from the courtyard. Arrive early; most Uffizi tours leave the meeting point on time with whoever is there.
Headsets, then security
You get a radio headset so you can hear the guide in busy rooms; the museum requires them for any group over six. Everyone passes a metal detector, and when the gallery is full even groups wait until others leave.
Guided, then free
The guide leads you up the 126 steps of the Grand Ducal Staircase and through the second-floor rooms: Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo's Doni Tondo, Raphael. When the tour ends you stay as long as you like and head down to the first floor on your own.

Before You Book
Which Uffizi Guided Tour Should You Book?
What a licensed guide changes inside the gallery, the museum's own group rules, and six small-group tours compared.
What the museum’s rules mean for every tour
The Uffizi does not run guided tours of its permanent collection. Every guided visit you can book is a licensed guide or a tour company working inside the museum’s rules, and those rules shape the tour you get. Groups are capped at 16 people including the guide. Any group of more than six must use whisper headsets. Only licensed professional guides may lead inside. So a “small group of 15” is the legal maximum, and the radio headset you are handed is a museum requirement, which happens to be what makes a crowded Botticelli room workable.
Entry works the same as with a reserved ticket. The tour’s reservation takes you out of the ticket-buying queue; everyone still goes through the metal detector, and when the gallery is full even groups wait at the door until others leave. Visitors report the security line at 5 to 15 minutes, more at mid-morning, and one guide notes that tour groups tend to enter from about 10 a.m. through a separate entrance.
What the guide adds is selection and order. The museum’s own shortest route takes an hour and a half to two hours and covers the second floor; a guided tour of the same length walks you to the works that matter in sequence, from Giotto and Cimabue through Botticelli and Leonardo to Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo and Raphael, and tells you why each one changed what came after. For a first visit that is the part a wall label cannot do. Every tour below ends inside the gallery and lets you stay on afterwards for as long as you like.
The small-group tour I would book
The Uffizi Gallery Small Group Guided Tour from Inside Out Italy costs $84 per person, checked in October 2026 for the next available date, and that includes the €29 museum ticket, the licensed guide and the radio headsets. The group is capped at 15. The guided part lasts about an hour and a half on the second floor, then the guide points you toward the first-floor rooms with Caravaggio’s Medusa and Bacchus and leaves you to it. It scores 4.8 from 1,344 reviews, and reviewers repeatedly praise the guides’ pacing in a crowded gallery. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
The meeting point is not in the courtyard but at the operator’s office at Via de’ Castellani 18/red, opposite the gallery’s general exit. And the listing says the tour is not suitable for people with mobility impairments: the visit starts with 126 steps up the Grand Ducal Staircase, about four flights, and the group keeps moving for ninety minutes. Lifts exist, but a group tour does not wait for them. Our breakdown →
Five other small groups on this site
The Renaissance Masterpieces Guided Tour from My Green Tour is also $84 and, with 6,122 reviews at 4.6, has the longest track record of any guided tour we list. You meet the guide in the courtyard in front of the Guido Aretino statue, the guided visit lasts about an hour and a half, earpieces are included, and the operator offers a luggage deposit at its office on Via de’ Martelli. The listing states no group cap beyond the museum’s, and the tour can be cancelled if too few people book. Our breakdown →
The Uffizi Gallery Small Group Tour is $76, 4.6 from 1,165 reviews, capped at 15, and runs an hour and a half to two hours. Reviewers mention bringing children of 8 and 10 and teenagers of 14 and 17 and keeping them engaged, which is useful to know if you are weighing a family tour. The meeting point depends on the option booked. Our breakdown →
The Uffizi Gallery Priority Entry Small-Group Tour from Nicom Tours is $60 and the group is limited to nine, so it is both the lowest-priced guided tour here and the smallest standard group. It scores 4.5 from 311 reviews. You meet in front of the Leonardo da Vinci statue in the courtyard, where the guide holds a red flag; a headset is included; the listing itself warns of 15 to 20 minutes at security at peak hours. Our breakdown →
The Uffizi Gallery Priority Entrance and Tour from Keys of Italy is $95, 4.8 from 267 reviews, also capped at nine, and sold as a morning tour run in a single language per departure. Our breakdown →
The Early Morning Uffizi Gallery Guided Tour from Hidden Experiences is $140 for a two-hour semi-private visit at the start of the day, with a private option at $157. It scores 5.0, but from 29 reviews, so treat that figure with care. Our breakdown →
Choosing between them
If price is the deciding factor and a group of nine appeals, the $60 tour does the same hour and a half with a smaller group. If a long track record matters, the Renaissance Masterpieces tour has more than 6,000 reviews. If you want the gallery before the mid-morning crowd, the two morning tours are the ones built for it. If anyone in your party would struggle with four flights of stairs and ninety minutes on their feet, a private tour that sets its own pace is the better format, and the family tours are built for young children.
On the day
Be at the meeting point 15 minutes early with the ID whose name is on the booking. Backpacks, large bags and large umbrellas go to the free cloakroom under the eastern colonnade; water up to half a liter is allowed. Phones on silent, no flash, no selfie sticks.
When you have picked a tour, check availability for your date; if you are still undecided about paying for a guide at all, our guide on whether a Uffizi guided tour is worth it and our room-by-room list of what to see in the Uffizi are the two to read next.

What Tour Guests Say
Ratings and review counts are the tour operators' live figures on GetYourGuide and may shift slightly day to day.
"Natalia knew a lot of the works in the museum and she made sure to share all the information about it with us."
"This was a great tour, especially in the very crowded Uffizi. Our guide, Francesca, was great! She taught us the history of each highlighted piece she took us to see which made the experience really enjoyable. I must add that Francesca's professional, calm demeanor made it easier for us to navigate the overwhelming crowds. Never once did she get frazzled but instead kept the 6 of us centered as if we were the only ones in the gallery. Highly recommend!"
"It was great tour!! A lot to learn and see. Laura was amazing."
"My tour was amazing! My guide (Laura) was so informative and educational! Saw all the highlights and had an amazing experience"
"This is a great intro to the Uffizi’s treasures and Sylvia is the fantastic guide!"
"Marco was so informative. We wish we had time to do more tours with Marco."
"I really enjoyed the tour. Despite the big crowd at the uffizi, our guide was relaxed all the time and so where we. I learned a lot in a very entertaining way."

Frequently Asked Questions About Uffizi Guided Tours
What people ask before booking a small-group tour of the Uffizi with a licensed guide.
The museum's own advance ticket is €29. Small-group tours on this site run from $60 to $140 per person with that ticket included, so the guide, the headset and the operator's booking work account for the rest. For a first visit the small-group tours at $60 to $84 are the usual choice; our ticket and tour guide compares every format.
It skips the ticket-buying queue, which from April to September can run to two or three hours. It does not skip security: everyone passes a metal detector, and when the gallery is full even groups wait until others leave. Visitors report 5 to 15 minutes at the check with a reservation and more at mid-morning peaks. Details in what to expect at the Uffizi.
The museum caps every group at 16 people including the guide, so no legitimate tour can be larger than 15 guests. The featured tour is capped at 15; two tours on this site cap at nine. Listings that state no number are still bound by the museum's 16. For a group of your own only, see Uffizi private tours.
The Uffizi requires whisper headsets for any group of more than six people, so the guide can speak at normal volume without disturbing other visitors. In practice they also mean you hear every word in a crowded Botticelli room while standing at the back. The featured tour includes radio headsets; independent visitors can rent whisper sets at the entrance for €1.50.
The guided part of most small-group tours lasts about an hour and a half, usually on the second floor where Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael hang. Every tour on this site ends inside the gallery and lets you stay until the 6.30 p.m. exit call, so you can go down to the first-floor Caravaggio and Titian rooms on your own.
It depends on the operator. Several tours meet in the Uffizi courtyard at the statues set into the colonnade, such as the Leonardo da Vinci or Guido Aretino statue, with the guide holding a colored flag. The featured tour meets at the operator's office at Via de' Castellani 18/red, opposite the gallery's general exit. Your voucher gives the exact spot; arrive 15 minutes early.
Every small-group tour on this site offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, and the Renaissance Masterpieces tour may itself be cancelled or rescheduled if too few people book. Inside 24 hours the booking is final. The museum tickets are issued in your name and cannot be transferred to anyone else.
Under-18s enter the museum free, so the ticket part of their place costs nothing, and some operators itemize the child's museum ticket at €0. The tour fee itself is set by each operator and shown when you enter the number of children at booking. Children still need a passport or ID at the door. For visits built around children, see Uffizi tours for kids.
Guides consistently describe 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the busiest part of the day, with the 8.15 a.m. opening slots and late afternoon calmer. The two morning tours on this site are built around that, and reviewers of the early tour mention gliding past the crowds. The season changes the picture too; see the best time to visit the Uffizi.
Bring the passport or ID card whose name is on the booking, comfortable shoes and a water bottle of up to half a liter. Backpacks, large bags and large umbrellas go to the free cloakroom under the eastern colonnade before the tour starts. There is no church-style dress code, just nothing beachwear-like. Photography without flash is allowed; selfie sticks are not.
